Regős Bendegúzt, az égetni valóan rossz kölyköt, anyja elszegődteti a bakterházba. A kisfiú szenved a pénzéhes lókupec, a lusta bakter, a fukar paraszt, de legfőképpen a Büdös Banya miatt. Bendegúz barátja, Toppancs jó tanácsokat ad neki, hogy hogyan lehet a bakter feleségének szellemével riogatni a háziakat. A fiú megfogadja a tanácsot, a bakterház összedől, ő pedig továbbáll.
