Weöres Sándor színpadi műve szerkezetében rendkívül egyszerű, sok tekintetben a Ludas Matyi történetre emlékeztet: egy csavaros eszű ifjú parasztember és felesége /Csalóka Péterék/ több tételben is alaposan túljárnak a falu kapzsi, ám mérhetetlenül buta bíráján, aki hatalmával rettegésben tartja népét. Az egymást követő epizódok mintha külön-külön történetek lennének: a Bíró minduntalan belesétál Csalóka Péter kelepcéibe, oly hiszékenységgel, mintha az előző epizódban mindez nem történt volna már meg. A furfangok egyre képtelenebbek, a Bíró hiszékenysége egyre nő, a falu népe egyre harsányabban kacaghat csekély értelmű urán.
