Tadeusz Słobodzianek, a kortárs lengyel drámairodalom egyik legfontosabb alkotójának darabja az 1930-as évektől követi nyomon egy lengyel iskolás osztály történetét, ahogyan annak tagjai próbálják túlélni előbb a második világháború borzalmait, majd a kommunizmussötét éveit. Bár egy közösséget alkotnak, az osztály hamarosan magányos egyénekre hullik szét: lengyelekre, zsidókra, áldozatokra és elnyomókra – miközben lepereg szemünk előtt a 20. század történelme, három nő és hét férfi személyes, kíméletlen tolmácsolásában.
